I think most homeowners are aware that our industry changed refrigerants a few years ago from R-22 to R-410a. Most homeowners still have R-22 in their outdoor units. You my friend are the person this article is intended for. The EPA governs how much R-22 is produced each year until the complete phase out in 2020. The biggest problem we face is the EPA will not let the manufacturers know until sometime in March how much R-22 they can manufacture. This causes speculation on pricing due to the uncertainty on the amount produced. Since the downgrade in production started in 2006 we have seen the price we pay triple. Guess what!
